Grief Recovery® Program Overview
The Grief Recovery® Program is a practical, eight-week journey that helps you navigate your grief in a personalized way. Developed by John W. James and Russell Friedman, this program has been a trusted resource for over 40 years, supporting people worldwide. Working with a Certified Grief Recovery Specialist makes the experience most effective, and you can choose to participate in either a group or individual format, in-person or virtually.
The program is based on The Grief Recovery Handbook – 20th Anniversary Expanded Edition – The Action Program for Moving Beyond Death, Divorce, and Other Losses by John W. James and Russell Friedman. Once you commit to the program, you’ll need to purchase the handbook from us or Amazon, as it’s essential for completing the 8-week program. All other materials to support your healing journey will be provided by us.
Understanding Grief
Grief is a natural response to any significant emotional loss. While we can’t compare different losses, some common examples include the loss of a loved one, divorce, retirement, moving, losing a pet, financial or health challenges, marriage, graduation, overcoming addictions, and unfulfilled hopes, dreams, and expectations.
Grief manifests uniquely for each individual. Since every relationship is distinct, the feelings and thoughts tied to a loss are personal and varied.
